How did you decide on the name of your meadery? We went through numerous options when deciding on our name.  Ultimately we wanted something that embraced our nerdiness and reflected the unique approach we take to meads.

How did you get involved in mead and brewing? On a whim, I began brewing fruit wines in 2002.  In 2008 I became interested in mead and was unable to find any commercial examples so after some research I  made my first mead based off of internet recommendations and mead descriptions.  That same year I began exploring craft beer and homebrewing thanks to the staff at DeLand Abbey and Volusia County Home Brewers Guild. And the rest, as they say, is history.

What are you most proud of about your product or facility? We believe in working with our local community as much as possible.  We try to seek out local producers for all aspects of our products, from working with local coffee roasters, farmers, and honey producers to working with local artists and designers for our packaging.

What struggles/challenges did you overcome to open your meadery? I think any brand new brewer will answer this question the same way, money and licensing!  Now that those things are behind us the real hard work begins.  Brewing on a commercial scale is so different than brewing at home in your kitchen.  I think every brewer knows that but it doesn't really sink in until that first brew day, and definitely not until that first paperwork day.  Someone once said, "Owning a brewery is 10% brewing, 90% cleaning and 50% paperwork."  I think their paperwork estimate is a little low!  I would say our biggest struggle right now is figuring out a rhythm, how to fit everything into a limited amount of time and in the most efficient way possible.  No doubt as we grow the challenge du jour will change but that is part of the fun!
